THERE IS FROST ON BACK WALL OF FREEZER AND SOME NEAR DOOR WHICH COULD INDICATE CLOSURE ISSUE BUT WHEN I PUT CONTROLS INTO SERVICE MODE TO CHECK DEFROST FUNCTION THE DISPLAY WOULD GO BLANK. THE SAME WOULLD HAPPEN WHEN SELECTING ANY COMPONENT TEST AND NOTHING HAPPENS. ALSO WHEN I CHECKED THE FAULTS IT READ 00 10 AND 00 1o AND 99 9d. NONE OF THESE FAULTS ARE IN THE TECH SHEET. I'M THINKING CONTROL ISSUE, ANY COMENTS OR SUGGESTIONS?

That's where I would start. If you're having issues getting into diagnostics and exhibiting strange characters it would certainly call the control into question. Try and test for defrost system continuity from the connector at the control board to rule out a defrost component failure.
