I have the following fridge:  LG LFX31925ST Fridge --

symptoms:

-on the upper middle part of back wall of the freezer there was ice in the middle 2" thick ice, picture down below

-the two small slide out drawer fronts also started to get ice deposits on the handles

-fridge: is working fine, things are cold, temp set at 33F

-freezer:  items are frozen as well, temp set at -1F
-the freezer door seal is good, it looks like it's all touching really well.

I can't slide paper in between...i tried card stock, can't get that in either

i can get the card stock to slide in from a corner, but there seems to be a good pressure when sliding it around.

so what are your thoughts?  what can this issue be?  Thank you in advance!

The defrost heater could be reading open, the thermostat could be faulty (resistance reading), the bimetal could be open and not allowing voltage to flow through the heater, or it could not be getting voltage entirely. I would put the unit into diagnostics mode and turn on the defrost heater. You can then check for proper voltage at the board. You can also disconnect the heater from the board and check for resistance/ continuity.

just to give an update

the door seal that goes around the door was dirty at the bottom side of the door.

since i've cleaned it up, and lowered the weight in the drawers, i haven't had any build up of ice.

i had to clean it out thoroughly two times...we regularly cleaned the upper and side seals, but the bottom one was missed.
