I've already done the inside drain disassembly check-n-clean.  The motor hums-like when attempting to drain.  Not a hint of water being purged.  My wife and I were trying to remember how long we've had this cheap-o dishwasher.  10-12 years maybe?  It lasted a lot longer than I ever guessed it would.  At the time it was the cheapest I could find.  I see Best Buy has the modern version and it's still only $379.  I'm temped to go pick one up.  A replacement motor for mine is ~$150, and the racks are well rusted, so it seems a bit silly to repair.  That said....

I'm trolling craigslist.  If I found a Frigidaire dishwasher there for cheap or free, what are the chances the motor will work in mine?

I also did some general forum searching here for "best" dishwashers.  Seems the brands most often spoken well of are all close to $1000.  It's not that I'm in love with Frigidaire, but I could buy two for the price of one Bosch and still take the wife out to a nice dinner.  I did read negative comments on Frigidaire.  How lucky was I getting one that worked without issue for ~10 years?

Thanks for your time.  This is always a fun place to visit, except I'm only here when something breaks.

Cheers, Gary

What say the professional repair men here?

I ended up going with the current cheap model Frigidaire.  Maybe it is one up from the cheapest, but still under $400.   The decision ended up being based primarily on the rack design.  The buttons on the old unit were easier to depress/select.  For some reason the inside of the washer is grey instead of white.  Why would any company not use white as it makes so much sense?  I pulled some parts off the old one out of curiosity.  It was the drain/sump pump that failed.  The impeller shaft corroded in half.  I hadn't realized there were two motors.

A new braided inlet line was necessary as the old one leaked when I tried using it again.  I also had to replace the shutoff valve under the sink.  This must be the kind of thing you pros expect, and that irks consumers when they think they are paying X for a unit, but it ends up being X+.
