Can someone please tell me what is causing this? I'd really appreciate it..everything else on the washer works perfect and there are no codes. I've had a few different washers do this abd I can't pinpoint what is causing it. I tried to load a video but it says it's too big. When the washer tries to agitate..even in manual test mode..it pulses the whole tub in one direction a little then stops then pulses a little more in the same direction..the whole inner tub..not just the agitator like it should..and It only occurs in vertical modular washers..thanks in advance for any advice.

Bad capacitor.   The capacitor is weak which causes the motor to not have enough torque to overcome the first agitate stroke in one direction so the opposite direction agitate doesn't happen and next stroke going in the original direction is still moving and it strokes in that direction repeatedly.

Thank you ..Would this still apply even if the capacitor is reading 44.9uf?

If the rating on the capacitor is 44.9uf and that is what it is reading then doesn't seem like that would be the problem - not sure what else could be causing this unless something in the transmission.

On the VMW there isn't a brake that stops the tub from turning but in agitate you should see the agitate go in both directions clearly with the tub only moving a little with the agitator with no clothes in the washer.

Open the top of the washer or trick the lid switch so you can run it and hold the spin basket while it is agitating and see that for sure the agitator is only pulsing in one direction.
