Samsung Dishwasher DW80K5050US Stops Midcycle

Hello,

I purchased my Samsung DW back in 2016 from Best Buy. This purchase was part of a complete Samsung kitchen package. This unit operated without issue until December 2021.

  • Brand: Samsung

  • Model: DW80K5050US

  • Issue summary: DW terminates midcycle after approx. 10 minutes of continuous runtime. DW basin full of undrained water. While DW off, water remains in basin. Intermittently after DW terminates midcycle, control touch panel buttons become unresponsive. Turning off/on electric panel kitchen breaker resolves this intermittent issue. Additionally the unit will chime on/off randomly throughout the day; this is equivalent to if you were to press the power button on/off without having begun a cycle.

  • Diagnostic cycle results: Cycle terminates after reaching stage 4 as indicated on touch panel LED display. Water shows being fully drained upon inspection after termination of diagnostic cycle stage 4.

  • Additional areas checked: Confirmed no loose wire connections or mechanical breakage within the door latch assembly. Verified with Samsung directly that this model was not manufactured with a dedicated thermal fuse. Re-cut/stripped the stranded electrical power wires on the DW and the solid 14awg wires coming from the BX cable whip. Replaced old wire nuts with new (yellow) wire nuts. Ensured wire nut connection was secure.

  • Professional service received: Licensed Samsung repair technician performed 10 minute house call and determined that main control board was faulty and causing all issues being experienced. Refused professional control board replacement service in lieu of DIY.

  • DIY repairs completed: Purchased and successfully replaced DW main control board (part #DD82-01337B). Original issues persisted despite replacement of DW main control board. Subsequently purchased and successfully replaced entire DW main wiring harness (part #DD81-02095A). Original issues persisted despite replacement of DW main control board and main wiring harness. Completed disassembly and deep cleaning of permanent DW filtration unit. Original issues persisted despite DW filtration unit deep cleaning. Final repair included replacement of stainless steel mesh waterline resulting in no improvement to DW issues. Replacement of main control board and wiring harness were checked with a voltage meter after install and showed no loss of signal.

  • Estimated expenses of repairs to date: 1) main control board purchased for $65, 2) main wiring harness purchased for $35, initial service technician call charged at $175, and waterline replaced for $20. Grand total of expenses total $295 vs. the original DW unit purchase price of $800 back in 2016.

Per the above I have tried and completed multiple repairs to this DW unit. Despite the repairs being successfully performed, I am unable to achieve any progress in resolving these issues. The DW continues to behave exactly the same now using replacement parts as it had been when using the factory installed parts. Due to both the control board and main wiring harness having been replaced and the unit being confirmed as draining water successfully within stages 1 - 4 of diagnostic cycle, what else could I potentially troubleshoot on the unit as causing these problems? Should I simply cut my loses and purchase a new DW; if so, what brand -- or model -- would you suggest that would offer the best performance and longevity under $1,000?

Thanks!

Did you replace it? if you are still working on it sounds like you could have a door switch malfunction or water is in the touchpad or UI?. If you have replaced the main control, wiring harness which are the most likely culprits
