Maytag Gemini MER6550 electric range oven element not heating

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I have a Maytag Gemini MER6550 double-oven electric range and the broiler element in the top oven stopped working. I checked it out and the element had physically failed (I think rusted through after years of steam?), so I replaced it. Almost right afterward the lower bake element of the top oven stopped working! I have inspected it and I can't see any obvious reason why it would have failed. So before I buy a replacement, is this just a coincidence or is there a chance the failed broil element fried something else inside that caused the other element to stop heating? The rest of the top oven functions (bake, toasting, broil, etc.) work as normal, it's just that only the top broil element heats now.

Thanks in advance!

You'll really need to test the element for continuity with a multimeter set to ohms. Elements can fail internally without any visual indication. All of the elements are the same age, presumably, so it's entirely possible you could have a double element failure.

@MrApplianceMattok, it took me awhile to get around to it, but I tested continuity and the element is fine. In fact, I ordered a replacement part just in case and that one doesn't heat either. Like I said, the broil element heats and the functions seem to work, so I'm not sure what to try next.

Check power getting to the element , if no power you will have a bad control board

Yeah, you’ll need to check voltage to ensure the board is doing its job

OK, took me WAY too long to get back to this, but I checked for power to the bake element and it reads OK. Now what??

if you have 220 to the element and it doesn't heat up it is bad ,

So, I re-took the readings this morning and the bake element tests at 30ohms, so seems fine, but the current was not coming on now (0.1V was highest reading). Does this necessarily mean the control board is bad, or is there something else it could be?
