GE Side by Side

I am going to look at a GE side by side, model # PSS27nGMABB, with complaints that seem at odd to me.

The home owner cites the following:

a. There are no lights when the door is open

b. The cheese in deli drawer is freezing

c. Ice cream in the freezer is soft but other food is not thawing

d. When they try to reset the temps. for both sides they will not stay set.

I asked if she could hear the evap fan running and she advised no. So its possible the fan blew and the board went  with it, but that does not explain the lights.

Having said that, these symptoms seem odd to me. How can the food side be freezing if the freezer side is warming up?

Any ideas out there?

If nothing's running and the box is DOA, the basic ground rule is to always verify your power source; that means ensuring that you have both voltage and current available at the outlet the box is normally plugged into. For example, if that circuit had an open neutral, and all you did was check voltage, you'd still measure ~120vac but the box wouldn't run. Easiest thing to do is plug a light or any other power consuming appliance that you know works into the outlet.

After you've verified the power source, then and only then do you go inside the box troubleshooting. I emailed you the service manual for this refrigerator at your adelphia address.
