GE Profile, Advantium Microwave Hum noise and Electrical Burning Smell

Recommended Posts

I have a GE Profile,  Advantium Microwave model PSB2201NSS 02 with no power at all. After watching bunch of DYI videos in YouTube, I discovered the thermal cut out attached to the Magnetron was bad as the multimeter continuity test shows no continuity. So I purchased GE part  #WB21X10148 (KSD1-ww2-150/0) and replaced it. The power came to the Microwave but now there is a continues hum coming from the Microwave and burning electrical smell. I shut off the braker from the main and am back to square one. After reading more articles, blogs etc., I removed the electrical plug from the Magnetron (after discharging capacitor) and tested it using a multimeter. There is no continuity between each connector leg and the casing of the Magnetron. Resistance of the Magnetron connection shows very small ohms reading reflecting the Magnetron is in good working order. So the left over in high voltage side is the transformer, diode and the capacitor. Which one of these could be bad and gives a big hum and electrical burning smell? Or am I in the wrong track here finding the cause of the issue?
