Whirlpool Ultimate Care II

I've got a Frankenstein machine that I bought at a used appliance center several years back. I'm not positive if it's the Whirlpool Ultimate Care II labeled on the controls or a Roper RAS8244LQ0 labeled on the shell. The guy I bought it from took the shell off another unit to put on this one when I bought it so it would look nicer than the big dent in the side of the what was on there. One of the things he told me when I bought it was, these things are easy to get parts for and work on if they go out. And my wife wanted an older style machine with an agitator. It's worked wonderfully since I bought it, until last night.

I came home and the pan/tray that I have it sitting in had quite a bit of water standing in it after my wife did a load of towels. When siphoning the water from the pan into the utility sink, I noticed it was soapy water, so it came somewhere from the appliance and not the supply lines.

After cleaning the water out of the pan, I attempted to start a small, empty load to see what would happen. It almost immediately began leaking again. I tried to determine where the water was coming from, but it was late and I was tired and not feeling it last night. It appears to be coming from the front area of the appliance (which I doubt helps much). I switched it over to the spin cycle to see if the discharge pump was working and it seemed to do it's job fine.

I guess my question is, where should I start looking when I finally get the time to devote to this thing? Does anything I describe tell you anything that is obvious to look for? I'd love to fix this appliance if possible, because if I can't get this one running, I'll be searching for another refurbished older model like this to replace it with. If you have any questions that I can answer to help diagnose things, please feel free to reply here and I'll try to get back as quick as I can.

Thank you for any help or helpful tips and advice.

Chris

If it's the Roper you can look at the drain pump mounted to the front of the motor. Could also be a torn discharge hose. Occasionally it will be the tub seal. You'll really have to pull the shell off and watch it run.
