Per advice of Mrs. Samurai, I am posting my HVAC situation here.

I have a geothermal ground source heat pump that stopped working after a power surge. The heat pump comprises tandem Copeland scroll compressors with associated start & run capacitors, contactor terminals, and a control board with high and low-pressure switches.

A tech found one of two compressors working and attempted to get the system to work temporarily with the good compressor. However, the second compressor soon failed, and my system is down hard.

My own troubleshooting reveals the compressors appear to be good with #1 resistances of 1.5 ohms (C to S), 1.1 ohms (C to R), and 2.4 ohms (R to S); and #2 resistances of 1.5 ohms (C to S), 1.2 ohms (C to R), and 2.4 ohms (R to S). My research shows the R to S values are a little low as they should equal to the sums of C to R and C to S (2.6 & 2.7 ohms, respectively).

The 60 uf run capacitors measure 0.05 nf & 0.03 nf (essentially shorted).

No other errors are apparent. The tech who originally came out put me off for four months and I told him to forget it. A second tech kept promising to look at my system and he too failed to appear. I live in a somewhat remote area and every local contractor is slammed. I am thinking I need only replace the run capacitors, but I am posting this in hopes of reaching a heat pump expert willing to help me out. Thank you.
