Whirlpool WTW4800BQ1 agitator not working properly

Soory for the vague title, but not sure how else to word it.  We recently began hearing a squeak from our machine.  Upon testing it was determined to only happen when the machine was trying to agitate the load.  Through various tests, I determined the ONLY time the machine works properly is with the internal tub removed.  Upon running the agitation test it makes no noise and seems to seamlessly alternate between CW and CCW.

Here is a link to a 15-second video showing the problem.  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cODvyLftsIUZe58zTBZRAoK6jEHGMZNc/view?usp=sharing.  The tub moves some in both directions, but not nearly as much as I think it should.  The agitator also is moving minimally.

Research suggests a multitude of things, so I'm coming here to see if anyone can troubleshoot this remotely and how simple of a DIY fix it is if properly diagnosed.  My uneducated assumption is either the capacitor or the motor, but not sure how to confirm one or the other.

I'll answer any questions you may have as best as I can, but I am a total novice when it comes to this stuff.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you can provide!

Just from what you have said my first guess would be to look at the gear case (transmission) W11454741

Or check the belt WPW10006384 and you also have the motor W10416668 . All of those component's may sound fine without a load, but once you put weight on them then a problem can arise .

As far as a simple DIY i personally wouldn't advise it. I would have a technician come out and check it out and do the repair.

when replacing the transmission or the motor you need to recalibrate the unit through the diagnostic's .

I tried clicking your link but it denied me access , i sent a request

Access granted.  Assuming you're correct on the issue, is it worth the repair cost?  The belt seems tight with no obvious signs of wear and/or cracking so I don't think it's that simple (though that would be nice).

Thanks for the reply!

Good morning.

It's kind of hard to say if it's worth the repair cause every company is different on their cost.  I usually charge 99.00 service call , labor of 178.00 + part + tax and I'm done within 35-40 minutes.

If your adamant on doing it your self , then it will be a lot cheaper to repair than replace. Just make sure you do some research on replacing the gear case or motor on your unit before trying.

Just from the video my first thought would be either the motor or gear case ..but without laying my hands on it i can't give you a straight answer.

I wish you the best of luck!
