KitchenAid dishwasher wash cycle not working

Recommended Posts

I have a KitchenAid dishwasher, KDTE104ESS2, that will not perform a wash cycle. The unit will fill with water but the wash will not occur. I verified that the wash pump/motor was not seized or shorted. After operating the washer with the door open, I discovered that the water level was not high enough to make the float switch operate. Once I pulled up on the float, the wash cycle began. When starting a new wash cycle, I can add a few cups of water and the unit will complete the wash. Should I focus on the float switch as it’s possible that it’s sticking or the switch is out of alignment or look into the water fill valve?

That float switch is only supposed to shut off the water valve if the water gets too high. Have you pulled the tech sheet out from behind the kickplate and retrieved error codes to see what the control board thinks is wrong? I would look at the water valve as most often dishwasher fills are done on a time basis rather than the float switch.
