GE model - GFSS6KKYCSS Refrigerator leak

Recommended Posts

This GE profile refrigerator leaks water from the bottom edge of the freezer box (see drawing). It is not a constant flow, it happens 1 or 2 times per day and leaks about 3-4 tablespoons of water.  I do not think it is condensation because it is not constant.  I have removed the back evaporator cover in the freezer section and cleared the evaporator tray drain area of ice, the drain was not blocked but there was ice on either side of the drain. I poured hot water down the drain to make sure there was no ice, during the pour no water leaked from the front.  I reassembled the unit and the leakage is now worse. Presently, I suspect that the drain connection at the evaporator tray has been compromised. Water might be  flowing behind and underneath the freezer boxes plastic insert.  I am not sure how to check this drain joint. A few questions to the forum:

  1. Which drain in the back (there are two) is for the freezer section? There is one drain by the condenser tubes and the other is by the condenser fan.

  2. Any ideas of a source of this leak?
  3. Does anyone know how drain tube connects to the evaporator tray?

  4. Any idea how check the drain?  Maybe food colored water?

Thank you for your support..
