GE JKP76G0V1BB Microwave/Oven Combo (circa 1996) Smells Like Burnt Plastic from vent above microwave (not inside) But Still Working OK

Can I still buy parts for this old of appliance?  Bad rectifier or magnetron?  Does GE still provide parts list and wiring diagram?

Thanks, Sean

The only way you're going to know for sure is to pull the oven out of the wall and pull the covers off. There's a lot of parts it could be and being 25-30 years old at this point it's anyone's guess. Magnetrons will either fail completely or exhibit arcing when they fail. If the diode/rectifier was failing you'd get a loud buzzing with no heat or no buzz and no heat.

@MrApplianceMatt I've had mag tubes failing where they will still heat but have a putrid sweet smell - I have no idea what it is or how else to describe it, (not really plastic burning).

Have to open it up and rule out anything obvious then run and see if the smell is around the mag tube.

I haven't seen this yet. Usually I see the popping and arcing in failed tubes or they do nothing at all. I'll keep this in mind though and add it to the list of symptoms that are possible.
