We do you need to measure with amperage on a gas oven if the VAC reading is the same at the gas valve?????

Not sure how to decipher your question? Is your oven not coming on? Once you energize the circuit by turning the oven on you can take a amperage reading off any wire going to the ignitor. The correct amprage requred to lite the oven will be listed on the safty valve itself.

Thanks quick. I was just wondering since you can test for 3.2 to 3.6 VAC at the gas valve why does everyone say test for amperage of 3.2 to 3.6 with a ampmeter. Just curious

Never heard of such a thing. Don't know what to tell you.

You're looking for 3.2-3.6 AMPS, not volts on a gas oven with a flat ignitor. Use an amp clamp.

Volts on the gas valve will work also - but just much easier to use a clamp-amp meter.

The voltage drop thru the ignitor will make voltage at the gas valve read 3.2 to 3.6 Vac as listed on the gas valve if the ignitor is pulling the correct amps.

This just isn't a very common way to check since the clamp-amp meter is just so much easier and quicker - if you don't have clamp-amp meter then a voltage check at the valve would be the next best thing.

If the ignitor glows and the burner won't light or you get complaints of it taking a long to for the oven to light and sometimes smell gas then you can be pretty much 98% sure you have a bad ignitor without doing any other checks, also a weak ignitor will just be a duller orange glow instead of a bright orange/white glow.

Within whatever is on the gas valve label. It will say what it requires.

You're welcome!

It's good to check anyway if you're not 100% certain, because you never know who was there before or what they installed.

There's no particular reason to believe that the igniter that's there when you arrive is actually correct.
