Frigidaire FWT445GES2 Front Load Washing Machine won't spin

The drum no longer spins. All other functions work correctly. Drains fine. Has been a workhorse since 1998! Before it stopped spinning it was making horrible noises as if it tipped over during the spin cycle or someone hit it with a sledgehammer. And at one point my wife said she had to lead something against the door to get it to start. Any thoughts on what may be wrong or how to fix it? Door latch sensor? Slipping Belt? Burned out motor? I am not very familiar with appliances but have a set of tools and a meter. Finances have me highly motivated to fix this as we cannot afford a new one at the moment. I just do not know where to start. Any ideas?

Probably a good first step is to start a partial disassembly of the washer, if you feel comfortable and have time to do it.  Look for anything that is obviously broken.

These machines had quite a few MCU failures in the day. But what you’re describing sounds like bad bearings or basket support.

Either repair would be cost prohibitive on a 25 year old washer.
