Whirlpool Oven F3 code

Tarheel Technician

Hello everyone. Went out to check a Whirlpool oven, model #: RS385PXBQ0.......the customer said it gave a F3 code, which by the service information means an open oven sensor circuit. Before I went out to the house, I figured it probably was a bad oven sensor, so that was the first thing I checked. However, it ohmed out exactly what it was supposed to. I checked the wiring and everything looked ok. So I turned the oven on, and let it run for about 20-30 minutes, and it worked just fine.

I'm thinking it may be the control board that's bad, but I was wanting another opinion. The LED lights on the control board seem to be dim also. Didn't know if that may be part of the same problem or not.

Thanks for any info.

Check to see if the copper ground is on the block is missing.  We are getting in ranges w/ 4 prong cords...when we put on a 3 prong they gave an F3 msg. It turned out that the ground strap ie grounding the case was missing. Check for that.  Tom

Since tarheel hasn't checked back...has anyone else noticed this missing ground?

These have been ranges that have come out of condo coversions. Tom

Good tip on this, Tom. I'd be very interested to know if this turned out to be the problem with the range Tarheel is working on.

Had to order a board for this unit. Although oven sensor checked fine, ordered one of those also just to be on the safe side. Haven't replaced them yet, still trying to schedule appointment with customer.

I'll give an update as soon as I get them replaced.

Thanks.

Replaced board and sensor about a week and a half ago, and everything has been working great.
