GE Front Load Washer wcvh6800j2ww - Motor Test Error

Recommended Posts

My relatively new GE Front Load Washer stopped working.  When I select the wash cycle I desire and hit start, the door locks like normal.  However, the drum then makes two tentative back-and-forth motions, then nothing.  I went through the Test modes -- main T10 and T11.

I opened the access panel on the back.  The belt looks fine and the drum spins easily.  I removed the belt and tried T10 without the belt.  The motor (WH20X10028) started to spin (it makes no alarming sounds, just a quiet spin), then it stops.  The display then stays on "tt" until I hit Power Button to bring it back to the main test interface.

I also tried T11 with the belt off.  The motor does nothing.  The display then goes to the "0" zero error.

The appliance shop said those motors usually don't go bad.  I don't think the bearings are bad, as the drum spins smoothly without noise or effort.

He suggested reseating the power connector on the motor or perhaps the door latch is the problem.  The door seems to latch just fine, but I didn't see a latch test.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Don

Test T02 what error codes are present?

Pardon, I thought I included the error -- E42 (Motor error).

In the meantime, I took out the controller to check for any burn marks on the board.  It looked clean.  Lo and behold, when I reconnected the controller, the washer started working again.  It is a bit flakey, as it will lock, start, unlock, relock and continue, all by itself.  I may purchase a new controller to be safe.
