Trying to figure out how to remove range top. Any help appreciated.

Under the burner covers are screws. All screws need removed. Usually a screw or two will break. If you break 2 screws on one burner you will need to replace entire burner assembly. 

It can get costly

Yep - broke some. Have to get the surface orifice holders off and see if I can unfreeze the remains. Could drill them out of need be. New ones look to be ~$50.

Still not sure how to open top - are there spring clips on side?

Here is how to get it off:

Remove grates, burner caps, covers. Remove valve knobs and any screws. Open upper oven door. Locate and remove each 1/4 hex head screw at each corner. Carefully lift and rotate top to expose ground wire in right rear and unscrewin.
