Frigidaire FCGM181RQBA refrigerator only not cooling

Our commercial series refrigerator isn’t cooling any longer. The fan in the fridge compartment runs as well as the condenser coil fan constantly and have done that since we’ve had the unit the last 2 years.

Shouldnt the fans turn off if temperature is reached? Even when it was cooling normally the fans inside and below ran all the time.

I’m not sure if the compressor is bad but that’s what I’m worried about. The relay switch doesn’t have any clicks when I shake it.

The compressor makes some noise and gets a little warm after a while being on.

The coils inside do not get cold.

Looks like a very basic wiring diagram. The inside fan runs all the time unless in defrost. The thermostat control the condenser fan and compressor.  Is there voltage at the compressor?  If there is voltage at the compressor what is the amp draw?

I think my multimeter is busted, it’ll read battery voltage but somehow not reading AC. Won’t read a house outlet and nothing is reading when I check between the yellow and white wires going in. If I unplug the yellow/white connector to the compressor relay it doesn’t go on, plugging it back in makes it turn on and make noise. Not sure I have an amp draw meter

If you feel the compressor vibrating it is probably running.  Any frost or ice build up on the evaporator? Is the condenser warm?

Posted

No ice or frost on evaporator, condenser doesn’t feel warm but it’s been off for a while. I’ll run for a while in the morning and recheck

Condenser not warm after 2 hours and still no cooling

Posted

The compressor is running, both fans running, no frost or ice build up on the evaporator, no heat output from the condenser - sealed system issue. Possibly a leak, restriction or inefficient compressor.

Is that fixable? This unit is pricey to replace and wife likes the glass front type

Posted

Yes, the cost is usually expensive.

Is there a pressure test or something I can do to find the leak?

Posted

If you can tap into the system sure.  You can take high and low side pressures to find out if it is a restriction, leak or inefficient compressor.
