LG LMXS30796S/00 refrigerator cooling issues

Hi All,

Yesterday, my LG fridge stopped working. It's always had issues with ice build up on the Evaporator assembly and the Tech that came out the first time said it was common with this model so he showed me how to fix it. Fast forward to a few days ago, I could hear the freezer fan hitting the ice when I came down for the morning so I figured that I would fix it when I got home from work. Later that evening, when I got home, I noticed water on the floor that led back to the fridge. When I opened it up, everything in the freezer was defrosted and the stuff in the fridge was warm.

Normally, when I've had to defrost the Evaporator Assy, when I plugged it back in, everything was good. This time around, it was completely defrosted but nothing was getting cold and the fans weren't on. I pulled the back covers off the fridge and the Compressor is vibrating and the fan down there is operating. When I hit the reset button on the main board, the fans up in the top of the fridge come on like they're supposed to and the Compressor and fan below both appear to be working. Still no cold air. In the other reset modes, things appear to be operating as intended but still no cold.

The odd thing (outside of nothing getting cold) is that in the past, when the ice interfered with the fans in the bottom of the freezer, if the build up was too much and it stopped the fans before I could get down there and defrost everything, I would get errors on the front panel on the fridge. In this instance, if you were to look at the front panel, it shows the fridge temp at 34 degrees and the fridge at 0 degrees. It appears that nothing is wrong. From the outside, the fridge has that audible "refrigerator hum" that you would expect to hear but there is zero cold. Any ideas? Thanks!

If the compressor is running, but there is no frost on the evaporator, then you have a system issue. I would suspect either an obstruction or a leak. It is time to call a technician out to diagnose and provide a repair estimate.

Thank you for your reply. I assume that the compressor is running as it feels like it's vibrating when I put my hand on it.

LG with liner compressor - my bet is bad compressor, too common in these units.

Looks to be maybe around a 2017 vintage - the sealed system parts/compressor maybe under manufacture warranty.

Do you know how can I find a service bulletin for this model? I have a refrigerator with the same model number and a couple of issues with the control board sending commands to the ice maker. Thank you!
