GE Dishwasher

I have been working on a GE dishwasher, model # 363.14582100, which seems to have an intermittant spraying problem during the wash cycle.

The customer advised that her dishwasher had gone through a complete cycle but the dishes were still dirty. They started it again and her husband cracked the door and activated the door latch (by pushing in) and observed water dribling out of the spray arm and tower.

When I got there it and tested it, it worked correctly, although the water level was low and I could hear debris in the spray arm when I took it out and shook it. I diagnosed not enough water and clogged spray arm so I replaced both. After replacing both, I ran it through an entire cycle and it worked perfectly.

5 days later I get a recall for the same problem. I asked her not to touch it and went down there as soon as I could. I cracked the door and observed the same, above mentioned, problem. I then thought the flapper valve may be twisted and was impeding the recirculation of the water so I removed the piston and nut and ran a 1/4" water line through the valve assembly and into the recirculation tube. Again I ran it though an entire cycle and worked fine.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Is it possible the motor pump assembly has an intermittant problem recirculating the water? I did not observe the timer getting stuck or water siphoning while it was filling so I don't think they could be part of the problem.

Any suggestions?

I have not heard of any intermittent problem with these. Based on what you're describing, I wouldn't be surprised if you found a broken piece of clear, nearly-flat glass in the pump. On occasion, the turbulence can set it on edge, blocking water flow, and resulting in low or no pressure at the spray arm. Check it out.

If all clear, then replace the motor-pump assembly.

Thanks replying Scott.

I removed the assembly today and found the rubber seals on the outlet portal door were warped which I believe is allowing the water to intermittantly siphon out as its filling. No water equals no spray action

I believe replacing the motor pump is also required for this. Do you agree?

I'd swap out the pump, they're cheap enough and easy to replace as well.
