Returning guest presenter Aaron Wilson is back for another exciting discussion. This time, we'll be talking about...
The Science of CYA: How to Keep the Customer Safe, Document Your Work, and Not Get Sued
We take on a lot of liability as appliance repair techs, and that can get us into sticky situations whether we've done anything wrong or not. Aaron will be teaching us all about how to navigate this side of the trade.
We'll start by going over a tragic, real-world case study where a sloppy installation had lethal results, analyzing exactly how the installer's negligence caused this. From there, our scope will expand to what kind of safety precautions we should implement in our own work, both for the customer's sake and for our own.
But even if you do everything perfectly, there's still the famous "technician witch hunt." Well, we'll also talk about how to deal with that by thoroughly documenting your work and putting yourself beyond legal reproach.
A little about our guest, Aaron Wilson:
Aaron has been in the appliance repair trade for about 15 years, starting out by doing installations before moving on to bigger and better things. He worked for C&W Services as a Sub-Zero authorized servicer for a time and thereafter joined Mr. Appliance of Highland Park in the Dallas area, where he worked for years as the lead technician and field service manager. These days, he's making sure that all the appliances of everyone's favorite fried chicken place are in tip-top shape as the Quality and Performance Consultant for the southwest branch of Chick-fil-A. In addition, he has taught many classes on refrigeration repair and advanced diagnostics, during which time he also developed training material for the soft skills side of things, which he is delighted to share with you. On top of all that he's a certified graduate of the Master Samurai Tech Academy, so he knows his stuff!

hi all, i have a whirlpool dishwasher model WDF510PAYSA that had a broken heating element. i replaced it, still not heating. checked thr thermal cutoff, chrckd good, checked res of new heating element, good. still no heating element function. before i invest in a new control board can anyone think of any other problem to cause no heat?

You need to go into the diagnostic mode and run the test program and at the point after it shows the error codes hold the HI-Temp button, (read the tech sheet - I think that's the correct key), to clear the error codes to reset the heating system.

does my model have the diagnostic feature? its 10 years old. (WDF510PAYSA) It does, how to enter and what method of readout is there?

Not totally sure of the entry sequence on this one, (it has tactile push button controls), the membrane button style of these is usually pushing any three buttons in a sequence of 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3 and it goes into diagnostics and certain lights will flash to show what sequence it's in and read out errors codes - again this is on the newer membrane keypad style, (I don't remember every having to put one with the tactile push buttons of this new GWS style Whirlpool dishwasher into diagnostics).

Here the part# of the tech sheet for yours: W10590887 if no one has taken the tech sheet from the dishwasher it should be in a plastic bag attached to the back of the  kickplate.

We don't supply tech sheets to DIY'er in this forum - they are for the paid tech members only but if yours isn't still with the dishwasher then using the number supplied above you maybe able to locate on one the web somewhere.

@pete g You are welcome - glad you were able to figure it out.  Was the tech sheet still with your dishwasher in the correct place - if YES, please make sure to put it back and leave it there for the next time or person that has to work on it.
