PFSS5RKZH SS I’ve maker not working and upper vent is brown on inside of fridge

Hi all, this is a GE Profile French door style freezer on bottom. It’s 8 years old. Tech came replaced ice maker didn’t work, I pointed out the brown color on inside which means it was hot . Now he wants to change board and fan. Not sure we are going to spend 780 on top of the 430 for ice maker/install. If anything, what brand of Refrigerator would you recommend? I’m sure GE would not warranty this even though it’s clear they have a major flaw . Has anyone experienced this condition with the excessive heat and discoloration?

Thanks,

James

I can send you the service manual via email. Idk how to upload the manual on this site. It won’t let me upload a pdf.

Post your email and I’ll send it to you.

you’re gonna want to go to page 64 and perform the IM service test.

the browning could be cause by heat.

take off the back panel and inspect the area.

but the IM is going to either be the pcb not sending voltage, the IM not receiving the voltage, a bad inlet valve, or a frozen inlet hose. Assuming the freezer compartment is at the desired 0 degrees

Hi, the PCB controls a fan and those two have to be replaced at the same time. No

idea where the hose is that could be frozen.  Not sure if gf wants to replace these parts or just buy a new fridge. The size of this model is what she would need as it fits into a space surrounded by cabinets. Any recommendations for new models/mfg?

email is below: Thanks I’ll  check page 64

Before replacing those fans, you want to ensure it’s not a board problem.

you want to check the output voltage from the board to the fans.

the pcb controls pretty much everything inside the unit.

in regards to a replacement unit, I personally recommend Samsungs because their fast tracks are superior to any other manufacturers tech sheets. Just get the dimensions of the unit and make sure the new unit has those dimensions

The inlet hose for the IM, ice maker, is located directly above the IM. It’s what guides the incoming water to the ice mold.
