Replace Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator Water Line to Ice Maker

Recommended Posts

I own a Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator, and recently the water line to the ice maker broke. I temporarily fixed the issue using a plastic push coupler, but now I want to replace the entire water line as it has become very brittle.

The water line runs directly from the bottom valve, up the back of the refrigerator, and into the top of the unit, where it connects to the ice maker, which is positioned near the front of the refrigerator.   Unfortunately, there is no access panel or easy way to reach the water line at the top of the refrigerator.

In my attempt to find a solution, I removed the ice maker and the air diverter to see if there was any access point for the water line, but I couldn't find one.

I'm unsure about the proper procedure for replacing this water line to the ice maker. If anyone has any suggestions or advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Model number??

Posted

Pictures make it nice. Used model number 106.51554104. Next question - are there wires the go into the cabinet with the plastic tubing? This model  may need the updated fill tube with heater p/n 4389174. Check the serial number to see if it needs the kit.

If the kit is not needed. Remove the icemaker. Make sure the water line has no ice inside. Release the water line from it connection in the back.  Gently pull on the rubber part of the tube dropping down from the ceiling of the freezer.  Sometimes it help to push the tube into the cabinet on the back side.
