Trick for solving no-drain problems on Frigidaire / Kenmore top-load washers

You'll find these Frikkidaire top loaders either as stand-alone units or as part of a stack. If it's disguised as a Kenmore, it'll have a 417 prefix in the model number. Okay, so you're working one of these cheesy washers and it's not draining. You check the obvious thing: the drain pump is clear, getting 120vac and running during the drain cycle but still no drain. What else could it be? Academy Fellow and Professor Emeritus of Laundry Appliantology nickfixit shares with us his hard-won p

Replacing the rear bearing in a GE / Frigidaire dryer

Friggidaire used to make dyers for GE (example model number: WSM2700HBWWW) back when GE was too busy building shoddy Mark 1 nuclear power plants to build their own shoddy dryers; those came later... and they're pretty damn shoddy. The Frigidaire-built units were better though not nearly as good as the Whirlpool units with the lint filter i the top panel. Anyway, if your dryer Frigidaire-built GE dryer is making a squeeling noise in back, you probably need to replace the rear bearing kit. S

Fixite Do: The Ancient Martial Art of Appliance Repair

Most folks think of appliance repair as just another one of the technical trades, like a plumber or electrician. And, it’s true, there are those who practice appliance repair as merely a trade. But did you know that appliance repair is actually an ancient martial art, older than Kung Fu, Karate Do, and Tae Kwon Do all put together? Yes, my leetle Grasshoppers, I shi’ite you not. The ancient martial art of appliance repair is called Fixite Do (pronounced “fixi-tay do”). According to archeological

Money-Saving Tip for Replacing a Motor in a GE Dryer

Some models of GE dryers are actually made my Frigidaire... or they at least use Frigidaire parts. One example is the GE DSXH43EA3WW dryer. If you have one of these with a bad motor, here's a tip that could save you a couple of of Benjamins: use the Frigidaire part number instead of the GE part. Grand Master Reginald explains: Source: GE Dryer: model# DSXH43EA3WW, Starts but won't stay running.

Understanding and Troubleshooting with Bosch Schematic Diagrams

Bosch schematics are notoriously cryptic and look different from the schematics used by other appliance manufacturers. But electricity still works the same way in Germany as it does in Korea, the US, or anywhere else in the known universe. Don't let the unfriendly nature of their schematics fool you into thinking otherwise! Once you understand a few simple conventions used by Bosch, you'll be troubleshooting with Bosch schematics as easily as you use Whirlpool's or any other manufacturer.

Schematic Diagrams, Timing Charts, and Open Neutrals

Here's an excerpt of a 20-minute training video now available in the Fundamentals of Appliance Repair training course on how to use the schematic diagram and timing chart to troubleshoot a problem with a washer drain pump that would not operate. The drain pump itself was good and getting voltage. Turns out that the problem was an open neutral. Screencast reply to a comment on our podcast episode, "Why do all new dishwashers suck?"

Rtnoww posted a long, rambling and erroneous comment to our podcast episode, "Why do all new dishwasher suck?" He claims that we are incorrect in saying that one of the purposes of rinse aid is to help dishwasher dry the dishes. In this short screencast, we show Rtnoww with Whirlpool's own technical training documentation why we are correct and how he is just plain out to lunch on this issue. Here's the link to the original podcast post page ==> http://fixitnow.com/wp/2012/03/29/why-do-all

How does this old skool dishwasher drain the water?

Y'all grab a cold one and gather 'round-- crusty ol' Samurai's gonna tell you a story. This here's a story about one o' them old skool dishwashers like yo momma had when you were still but a glimmer in yo pappy's eye. These old skool dishwashers didn't have a separate, dinky little drain pump motor like today's gelded dishwashers. Nawsir, these old skool dishwashers had just one big honkin' motor that did double duty washing (more like sandblasting) the dishes and draining the basin. They d
