Thanks! That sounds like a viable alternative if I can't figure out how to use the actual mount off the original 10085. I did notice that there seems to be some kind of bend-over / crimp tag on the bottom 2 corners of both the original thermostat and the substitute. Has anyone tried to bend those tabs of a dead one to verify whether we could theoretically release both stats' mounts and securely attach the original mount to the 10085? Of course, I'd also be betting that the 10085's exterior mount will pull off an unseen underlying shaft because that big threaded region its shaft may be too long to fit under the old mount.

Wouldn't be hard to make a mount - just use a strip of plumbers strapping cut to the correct length, make "L" bends at each end so enough of the knob shaft will stick through the mounting hole, find a nut the correct size of the center threaded mount. Drill small enough holes for the two mounting bolts/screws will thread into the plumbers strap or use speed clip nuts if the holes that are in the plumbers strapping is too big and already at the correct mounting screw spacing.

I've also been hunting for a substitute for the GE WR09X10053 part# GE says is the correct replacement for my FCM5DMCWH. I had little or no luck other than what looked to be discolored, very used-looking parts on eBay. After seeing QKCAM's post, I bought the Amazon WR50X10085. But when I attempted to install it, I hit a snag. The original thermostat on mine was screwed into the back of the temperature adjustment knob's mounting plate with two screws that went through 2 holes into plastic posts on the back of that plate. My problem is that the Amazon WR50X10085 has no mounting bracket at all. So the only thing holding a device that's controlling full amperage 120v power would be the friction press-fit of the shaft into the freezer's control knob. That doesn't seem safe to me. My freezer's original thermostat was labeled "CS6448N" and "WPF27S-103-032"). There was no significant number of visible threads on its shaft. So I didn't see any obvious way to get the stand-off mount with the screw holes off the original thermostat and onto the WR50X10085. The 10085's shaft is threaded. It looked like the tab the knob hits to turn the freezer off prevents the spinner from rotating 360 degrees to unscrew the plate from the original one (if it is threaded) or to re-screw the old mounting plate onto the 10085. Just to further confuse the issue, I've since located a supposed "New old stock" WR09X10053 online. for nearly $100. It's pictures show it does have what looks like a nearly identical mounting plate - but that plate has no screw holes at all. So apparently the mounting for that thermostat has changed between revisions / serial numbers of this "Compact 5" freezer. Does anyone have any ideas of how to move the mounting plage from the CS6448N to the WR50X1008? Thanks in advance.
