Man that's a blast from the past! Yeah that's I think a WWA7xxx series or WWA8xxx or something like that? Not sure, it's been a while but not much is available for those anymore. When you say you have to push down on it to make it agitate, do you mean pushing down on the agitator? There is a splined coupler at the top of the transmission shaft that meshes with the top of the agitator (if I remember correctly) and if that or the splines in the agitator are stripped, it won't agitate. If you fill it without the agitator in place, does the transmission rotate back and forth or only if you push down on the shaft? If the latter, the transmission probably has a problem. -

3 Wire Lid Lock or Control Board Issue
kerry H replied to kerry H's topic in DIY Appliance Repair Help
The 1st switch is working when I close the lid. What isn't happening is the lid lock isn't getting a lock signal. I have use 3 different lid locks and they all do the same thing. I push the cycle/start knob and it beeps once and nothing happens. Eventually it will be two times (same as the pause cycle beeps) but noting more happens. If I don't close the lid lock and push the cycle/start knob, it beeps 3 times (assume indicating the lid is open). I am not sure what else the controller is looking for before it will lock the lid and start the cycle. -

Kenmore gas dryer (110.97583820) drys clothes but runs from one cycle through the next
Def Egge posted a topic in DIY Appliance Repair Help
I have a Kenmore gas dryer (110.97583820) that I purchased new on Halloween 1994. We've been through a lot together in the past 30+ years. I have replaced the drive motor, the drive belt, the rear drum support wheels, and the door switch through the years but it has proven to be workhorse. I replaced the door switch with a questionable replacement but need to obtain a real OEM part to replace the 100% chinesium part (sold by a name parts house). I am not certain if that is relevant to the current problem but I will mention that twice I have opened the dryer door and the drum kept spinning until I tapped the switch. Currently the dryer drys clothes properly but runs from one cycle through the next until it completes the whole circuit (auto dry ---> timed dry ---> air dry) before stopping. What is the most-likely cause of this new behavior? The timer? The electronic control board? Something else? Thanks for your input! -
Thankyou !!!

3 Wire Lid Lock or Control Board Issue
MrApplianceMatt replied to kerry H's topic in DIY Appliance Repair Help
What pins are you checking? If you're checking between 2 and 1 or 2 and 3 in connector J13 the you're going to see 120 VAC because J13-2 is Line to the lock. Try unplugging the lock connector at the board and checking for continuity between 2 and 3 in the harness connector with the lid closed. The lock mechanism is a high failure part. -

Loading Meter Resurrects a Dead Dryer
Son of Samurai posted a blog entry in Appliance Repair Tech Tips
An interesting topic came up here in the Appliantology forums a little while back: The tech was working on an electric dryer that was DOA -- no lights, no response to button presses. He put his multimeter to the LoZ setting (as you should always do when making AC voltage measurements!), and he started checking for the power supply to the appliance at the terminal block. Here's what he got: L1 to N: 0 VAC L2 to N: 120 VAC L1 to L2: 20 VAC -- and while the meter leads are held on L1 and L2, the dryer UI lights up! Huh? What's going on here, both with the strange voltage reading from L1 to L2, and with the dryer coming to life while that voltage measurement is being taken? Let's crack out the schematic and find out. Here's the dryer schematic with the power supply to the board marked up. As you can see, the board's power supply is L1 and Neutral. There's no switch in either Line or Neutral going to the board -- the board is hardwired to its power supply. That, combined with the fact that, even when we measure at the terminal block, we get 0 VAC from L1 to Neutral, seems to indicate that we're missing L1, probably due to an open in the wall outlet or the house wiring. But how then is the board coming to life during our L1 to L2 voltage measurement? Well, let's look at what we're doing on the schematic when we perform that voltage measurement. How does connecting the meter like this cause the board to come to life? It's because we are connecting L2 to the L1 side of the circuit through the loading meter. Here's a simplified drawing of what's happening: We are effectively creating a series circuit with the loading meter and the control board. This also explains the weird voltage reading we got measuring from L1 to L2 -- that's how much voltage was being dropped across the loading meter. This is what that circuit looks like, drawn out as a line diagram. So there you have it -- a weird problem with whacky symptoms that turns out to have a simple solution! All of this came from a missing L1 at the wall outlet, the kind of thing you can easily catch by taking a measurement right at the outlet with a loading meter. Want to get in on the action?
