Most of you guys are probably not on here anymore but I wanted to give an update, only 65 months later! I am going to have some work done on my 33 year old house to get it in marketable condition should I want to move. So I was thinking about this range, that still does not work right, and if I should replace all the Kenmore Pro appliances. The fridge has never worked right either; only the DW has been trouble-free. So I reviewed this thread and made some notes about what I have tried over the years. I have spent over $800 on parts including temp sensor, relay board, control board, lower element, etc. Just the other night I wanted to warm up some BBQ ribs and next thing I knew they were sizzling. WTF? So I was perusing the Service Manual this afternoon and something hit me - an illustration of the oven control knobs showed them reverse of my range! Well I'll be, somehow the mode selector and temp knobs got put on wrong. When I thought I was setting the temp I was actually setting a mode. What I thought was Bake at 400* was really Conv. Roast at 275. No wonder it would not get "over 250." I'm not sure this fixes everything because I haven't done any testing but at least now what testing I do will be accurate and not so confounding.

Robert Couchman replied to Robert Couchman's topic in DIY Appliance Repair Help
Thank you for answering my query, let me see if I can explain what I discovered. I desoldered the full wave rectifier that is adjacent to the two caps and found that the hot glue that had been used to mechanically attach the capacitor had flowed underneath the rectifier, become carbonized and therefore conductive and that's what was arcing. I cleaned up the carbonized hot glue replaced. The full wave rectifier and everything seems to be working swimmingly. I'll post some pictures for your edification. Thanks again to everybody who contributed. -

Maytag MHW5500FW1 User Interface Panel craziness
Gold Ramen replied to Gold Ramen's topic in DIY Appliance Repair Help
Really trying to determine failure of User Interface or Control Unit or both. The Diagnostic mode has two methods of initiating, using the Spin Soil and Temperature buttons or rotating the dial CCW and CW. Both methods could not reach Diagnostic mode. So am I left with the most expensive part Control Unit to replace? It's OK I can take it. Thank you in advance. -

Whirlpool washer model wtw4955hw3 stops after wash cycle.
mqcmcousin posted a topic in DIY Appliance Repair Help
My washer stops after the wash cycle and drain is complete, wash light flashing, try to start pressing start button and flashes again after a minute or so. Fault code shows F5e2, F2E1, F5E3. Replaced lid switch and still have the problem. Attempted to run manual test but don’t know the sequence of function test, tech sheet doesn’t show it, never saw a lid switch test. It fills and drains and agitates and spins in the test. In automatic test it seems to test everything but the lid switch??? Don’t understand why. Do you think it is the controller? Don’t know if I want to buy a controller. Any suggestions on what else I can check? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks -

Wire Piercing Probes in Action - Locating breaks in Whirlpool SxS Lower Hinge Wiring
Mr. Appliance of Mentor commented on Rhubarb Tau's blog entry in Rhubarb Tau's Sloggy Vlog Blog Bog
Whirlpool has a huge problem with this. They can’t make a wire harness to save their life. It’s what I call “damaged beyond reasonable” as I would realistically need to replace the door and the harness and that type of money isn’t realistic for the customer. So I just have them call whirlpool and scream at them. Also it happens again and again due to lack of slack and the design. It’s a catastrophe. The more they open and close the door, the more and more the wires get tugged on, the more and more they rip.
