Cabrio Washer Tub Bearing And Seal Replacement Kit

From my understanding, the newer ones have replacement bearings. Where the older ones you had to change out the entire outter tub. Does anyone know any different.

How effective is the repair; i.e. what kind of life do you get after? The aluminum shaft (upper right of parts picture) of a customer's washer has a 3-inch rust patch on it; so he's a replacement candidate, right?
