Add-on ice maker works intermittently

Add-on 2nd ice maker IMK0028A

Ice maker installed DIY in lower freezer unit a couple of years ago. In last several months it sometimes stops making ice. We move the activation arm up and down a couple of times. We do this 3-4 times over maybe 2-3 hrs. Finally it begins dropping ice again so I don't know if fiddling with the activation arm had any effect.

Why would it suddenly stop then start again hrs later?

Thanks,

Ron

If the freezer temp is 0 degrees there is possibly an intermittent connection inside the icemaker.

Is this true for this model or a general rule?

The temp is a general rule for making ice. If the temp is good moving parts of an old fashion mechanical to get to work point to intermittent connections.

The intermittent functioning of your add-on ice maker may result from various factors, such as a defective activation arm, a malfunctioning water inlet valve, or a partial blockage in the water supply line. Manually adjusting the activation arm can temporarily resolve the issue by dislodging debris or resetting a stuck mechanism, allowing the ice maker to resume operation briefly.

To effectively address the problem, it is advisable to clean the activation arm thoroughly and ensure its unrestricted movement. Additionally, inspect the water inlet valve for damage or debris accumulation, replacing it if necessary. If the problem persists, examine the water supply line for potential blockages or kinks.
