Hello

My LG WM2016CW front load washer has following problems:

- at the end of the cycle we find multiple rubber residu both inside the drum and the filter;

- at the end of the cycle, after the spin (however most often when loaded and medium/high spin speeds) we can smell a light smell of burnt rubber.

I checked multiple forums and coild find multiple-causes and possible explanatioms for the burnt rubber smell, however I could not find anyone experiencing the rubber residu issue...

Regarding the rubber residu, my first guess was that it came from the drum that may come in contact with the door gasket and chewed it up; however after further inspection 1) I could not find as much chewed rubber around the gasket as I found in the drum and filter, and 2) the plastic of the rubber residu does not seem to be of the same nature as the plastic of the gasket (it is much more solid than the flexible plastic of the gasket).

Besides, notice that we never had any of the standard Error messages that can be found in the products' service manual. I stopped using the machine for now.

=> Consequently if you have any guess where these rubber residu may come from, that would be of great help to me

Thanks a lot for your help and feedbacks

How's the machine sound in the spin cycle?

Posted

Failed Inner Drum (at the very least).

Cracked trunnion/support---usually causes severe tub wobble during the spin cycle (especially with wet laundry in tub).

Inner Drum makes contact with rubber door gasket---results in burning rubber odor and visible smoke.

Solution: Replace Inner Drum and Tub bearings---or replace entire washer.

Hello

Thanks a lot for your quick replies!

@sh2sh2: ' How's the machine sound in the spin cycle? ' => lguenu: we could not detect any strange noise during the spin cycle, nothing special.

As stated by @john63 my guess is that the drum as some contact with a plastic piece - however I could not detect which piece(s) (this is not the rubber door gasket that I inspected several times).

I would like to show you a picture of the rubber residu (here found in the filter after just 1 standard cycle) - just to confirm/infirm your thoughts and diagnosis:

Could you please let me know if you have more ideas?

Thanks for your feedbacks again

Best regards

Sure looks like the plastic of the outer tub to me, so it sounds like the basket is broke and eating the outer tub for dinner

Can u take a picture of the door boot and basket area

Better yet a video of it running with sound.

Hard to believe it's not making noise chewing up that much plastic.

Hello @sh2sh2 @john63 @16345Ed

Thanks to all for your feedbacks!

After a few days off, I spent some time to run a few more tests and record a few sounds...As @16345Ed said, I was surprised I did not hear strange sounds last time I tried a standard program.

First I tried the LG WM2016CW 'QC Test' described in the machine's Service Manual. This is a test I ran empty - no load. I tried all the 12 steps twice - including 'High speed spin' and did not detect anything. Everything was running OK.

So I wanted to check a program with load. I tried a Quick Cycle program with Low spin, and loaded the machine with socks and underwear - pretty light load. During the 29 minutes program, nothing strange, everything ran very smoothly, no strange noise. I checked the drum and filter - no rubber neither nor smell.

So I tried the same Quick Cycle program, and loaded the drum a bit more. I would say 'normally loaded'. This time I noticed strange noice at the very end of the spin cycle. No rubber however. I recorded the noice heard at the end of the spin cycle (approx. with 2 min. left) :

I stopped the tests, I preferred getting a few specialist's feedbacks before running any more cycles.

Rubber does not seem to be and issue with Quick cycles. Strange noise during spin may come from damaged bearing balls. What do you think?

Thanks again for your precious feedbacks and help

Best regards
