Maytag LSE7804ACE Spanner Nut Removal

This is a stackable washer/dryer combo.  Does the spanner nut/tub nut removed clockwise or counter clockwise?  Also, I'm assuming since this is belt driven I don't need to lock a transmission prior to removal of the nut.  Thanks for any help.

Rule of thum they always unscrew the opposite direction that the tub spins. So they do not unscrew during high speed spin.

Thanks...only one problem.  I can not turn on the unit at this time, I do not have a 220 connection.  Does anyone know which way to loosen the nut, clockwise or counter clockwise on this washer

Counter clockwise

You can take the drive belt off and turn the pulley by hand , one way it will agitate the other way it will spin .  This way you will know which way it turns in spin.  Do this to be sure that I am thinking right, but I think you will find that it will spin counter clockwise , and as johntech says it will unscrew the opposite way .  I wasn't sure if sh2sh2 was referring to the way the tub turns or the way the nut comes off. I mean no disrespect

Also a new nut comes in a tub seal kit , sometimes they are so cruded up it is just Easier to split the nut with a chisel and get it off   If you are replaceing the tub seal

This has the old style stem and boot seal, the spanner will be right-hand thread, so it will loosen CLOCKWISE.

Direct drive whirlpools are normal lefty-loosey righty-tighty, not these.

Evaappliance, I tried your idea of removing the belt and the pulley moved freely and the tub did not spin or agitate.  What does this mean?   I may just go with Hiroshi and attempt to remove the nut clockwise.  Do I need to lock the transmission or drive before I start hammering on the nut wrench?  Thanks.  I included parts diagrams of the tub,  clutch, brake and belts, and the transmission.

If that is happening it is not good at all ,. What was the machine doing  wrong for you to need that nut off ?  Start from the beginning so we are not all chasing our tales ?  You have to turn it a lot by hand to see the agitator move .

The unit is new to me, I've never used it.  I planned on giving it to my son for his college apartment.  It was very dirty so I opened the front and top and cleaned the tub ring and my plan was to remove the tub so I could clean out the outer tub.  I did make one attempt to remove the nut by going counter clockwise.  When it did not fully loosen after a couple of attempts I stopped and posted my question.  I can't plug in the unit and test because I don't have a 220 connection.  Thanks.

I have the spanner wrench pictured above.  That is what I used when I attempted to remove the nut counter clockwise.

I would recommend getting the machine to a power supply and run a test cycle or two before cleaning on it . If all is well, Put cleaner in the washer and let it soak then run it again to clean it.?
