Kenmore Microwave 40185059210 -SE- error code

Kenmore microwave model 40185059210 over-the-range.  Possibly killed by cleaning lady.

First we lost function of the "5" button, the "one minute" button... a few months later,
It is dead, showing -SE- on the display. Troubleshooting and repair help PLEASE!

I believe SE is shorted keypad. 

Makes sense based on stuck 5 key you described. 

I don't work on microwaves much but sure sounds like you need new touchpad.

That's what I heard (from a random youtube video).  So, now I need to figure out how to open this thing up and replace it.

Might be more economical to buy a new one.

Switch membrane is only $30.00 at repair clinic. You won't even need to pull the microwave down for repair. Unplug unit. Remove the top grill. You will see a screw above the control panel remove the screw and slide control panel up then tilt forward. (Sometimes you have to remove an additional piece to slide the panel up.)  They normally have a foot that slips into the cabinet on the bottom. Disconnect all the wires then slide the foot free from the cabinet and put the control panel on a soft surface. Remove screws and/or clips holding control board. The switch membrane is a sticker on that model so after you have everything off the console with the sticker pad peel off sticker (make sure you have a flat surface for new sticker to adhere to.) Shove new membrane switch harness thru the hole then peel sticker backing then apply sticker slowly and make sure it's straight. Reassemble opposite the way you pulled it apart.

Was in a rush and ordered the whole panel.
$72 is still much less than someone coming out to fix it, or $200-300+ plus the installation of a new one.
Now, how can I keep the cleaning lady from brutalizing the thing?

Tell her what happened. Ask her to only use a damp rag. No spraying. 

If that doesn't  work, hire new cleaner. ?
