Hi Everyone,

It's been a while since I posted here. But it's great to know there's a resource like this available.

Here's my problem. After 10 years of consistently overloading out dishwasher, one of the upper rack's rollers has bent. I will try to attach the photo. I thought that the bolt that hold the roller had bent, but no: the moiunting point behind the sidewall (where the roller screws into) has bent downward. Now, that track/rail falls out of place whenever we move the racks.

So here are my questions:

  • 1. Before I go in there and force it too much, is there any way that I can access this mounting point if i take the dishwasher out from under the cabinet? I looked at some of the parts manauls, but i did not see anything that looked liek a mounting bracket that i could replace.
  • 2. Will I risk breaking something important if I try to bend everything back into place? (I was thinking about weling a rod to one of the old screws to make a longer lever)
  • 3. is there another way to fix this?

Thanks!

If you bend it back, it will only weaken the stud mount further... This type of repair would be best done from the outside of the unit, perhaps using a large metal washer and a nut and bolt combo that fits through the roller wheel in order to "spread out" the weight and stress on the roller stud by a few more square inches... this way you won't have to drill more holes or change the design of the unit in any significant way. You need to mimic the collar on the roller stud as well, so it is pressed tightly to the plastic wall and doesn't start a leak issue...

Thanks for the opinion! So if I pull this unit out from under the counter, you think i wil be able to see the mounting hardware on the back? To be honest, i have take apart car engines, but i have never taken apart a dishwasher! So i'm just trying to understand the lay of the land.

Since these mount under-counter there is no cabinet on the outside blocking your view, the top and sides should be bare... Just lift the insulation out of the way and you should see the screw pot or spot weld they are using to secure the stud/holder in place and plan from there...
