Kenmore washer noise during spin cycle

Aargh!  It seems that I can't put this one to bed . . .

The first load run with the new motor tripped the breaker.  Uh-oh.  Thought maybe the breaker was damaged when the old motor had seized so I replaced it.  No more tripping.  However, while the washer's timer shows that a load is finished, there's still an inch or two of water in the tub each time, almost as if the rinse/spin cycle didn't finish.  Again, the timer has reached the "Off" position when this happens.  Running just a rinse/spin cycle works fine.  Any thoughts?  Could I have gotten a bad motor that cuts out at some point?  The one I received looked as if it had been repackaged as a return, but didn't show signs of installation.  Lid switch seems to working OK.  Bad timer?  This one's about 4 years old.
