All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological.
We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!
Who: This workshop is only available to tech members at Appliantology.
When: Saturday, April 27 @10:00 AM Eastern Time.
      Where: Online via Zoom

Generic spark module replacement for Ramblewood cooktop?

Hi All-

I've got a Ramblewood single gas cooktop with an ignition problem. (Sorry, I don't have the model number.)

There was no spark and a very weak pulse at the igniter. There was a very faint clicking sound. While I was fumbling around trying to diagnose the problem, I stupidly touched the igniter to the ground while sending a pulse. A noise and a small whisp of smoke rose out of the ignition coil/spark module.

Whatever the original problem was, I'm pretty sure now I have a bad spark module. The problem is I can't find a replacement ANYWHERE.

It's an ELE Devices JDEC A2110. Maybe made once upon a time in China.

So my question is, can I use a spark module from another maker?

As long as it produces enough spark to jump across to the burner, and doesn't blow up, is there a way to find a Bosch or Whirlpool, etc., that will do the job? I don't care if I have to fabricate my own bracket.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the reply.

There's just one spark point (assuming that's where the spark jumps from the igniter to the actual burner).

I'm looking at "spark module kits" on appliance parts pros. They're listed as "2+0" or "4+0" or "6+0". Is that the number of burners they serve? Mine has a single burner.

Is it worth buying a $130 module over a $30 one. I'd like this to last 5-10 years.

Thanks very much.

If you can't find a single outlet spark module without flame sensing ( the ones on wolf dual fuel are single outlet but are flame sensing) then you can use a 2+0 and just run a wire from the unused outlet to ground, I've seen this done on 6-burner Viking ranges with 2, 4+0 modules. One serves four burners, the other does two and the unused ones are just shunted to ground. $30 will buy you plenty of butane BBQ lighters and you can use them around the house for lighting candles, etc.
