Any Miele experts out there?  The drum in my T1415 dryer stopped tumbling.  I've opened the dryer up and noticed the smaller v belt had snapped.  I ordered a replacement through Miele but it got me thinking.... Since I wasn't able to get the right side panel all the way off (I could use help there too), I didn't really get a good look at the motor.

Question, does the motor drive both the drum and the blower fan?  Reason I ask is because the blower still works and I want to make sure the v belt just broke due to age vs the motor seizing up and snapping the belt.

If motor drives the blower fan, then I only need to replace the belt vs belt plus motor.

Apologies for the long winded description.  Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Just about every dryer made has one motor which directly drives the blower and tumbles the drum via a belt. I'm certain your age/use theory on the belt failing is correct. If the blower works, the motor is still functioning.

Thanks AccApp, crossing fingers that it's just the belt.  Should receive from Miele by tomorrow.  I'll post back results.

Well.....received the v-belt today from Miele and installed it.  I finally figured out how to remove the side panel completely in order to gain access to the motor and pulleys.  Pretty simple stuff once I had access.  Was all proud of myself and ready to crack open a cold one.  My son stops by and high fives me....power back up and test, looks good, drum turning...all is well.

Except...no heat.  Crap.  I do remember while testing way back before I knew the belt was snapped, seeing the element glow in the back of the dryer and then smelling a burnt smell.  I thought it was because of all the lint that I disturbed while pulling the dryer apart, maybe some of it got caught up in the heating element, but now that I think back, it was a pretty strong burning smell.  Most likely I fried my element while I was troubleshooting the issue.

I tried to reset the breakers, but no love. All i have now is a very expensive fluffer (hold the jokes please :) ).

Not sure what my options are at this point.  Any suggestions?

Rip it apart again and get in there with at least an ohmeter and find out what failed. Shouldn't be too hard. Follow the big wires.

AccApp,. Thanks for the response.  I went back in and tested the two relays/thermostats that were on the element.  Turns out one was okay, the other didn't register.  I put a jumper wire to test and the heating element fired up, so it looks like the thermostat is bad.  I'll order one from Miele and give it a go.

Hopefully there's nothing else going on besides the thermostat.

Regard Eric
