Top Mount and SXS Refrigerators Warm Temperatures Due To Incomplete Defrost
Model Numbers: See Attached List
Customer’s Concern:
Ice may build up on evaporator over a period of time due to incomplete defrost cycles resulting in warm temperatures.
Cause:
ADC’s, adaptive defrost controls, initialize a defrost cycle based on several factors. These factors include the length of time
between previous defrost cycles and the length of the time the defrost heater is energized. It may be possible that abnormal
ambient temperature, humidity, interior heat load, and customer usage can result in the ADC not initiating a defrost cycle before
the frost accumulation becomes excessive. This may result in a small amount of frost or ice left on the evaporator coil the next
defrost cycle. Once this occurs, the accumulation of ice will gradually build over a period of time until the air flow through the
evaporator is restricted resulting in warmer temperatures.
Correction:
Eliminate the ADC routine built into the ADC control by cutting out a resistor on the board.
Procedure:
There are two types of ADC controls: ADC2000 and ADCWFI
