Whirlpool Cabrio Dryer WED6200SW1 - mystery codes & will not start

WED6200SW1 model cabrio dryer. Stopped running, was displaying F01 error code in diagnostic mode. Checked all the connections to the main board, everything looked okay so I replaced it. Still would not work, can't remember the new code but research suggested I replace the control interface. That didn't help either.

Now the dryer will power on but wil not run. In normal mode, when you press the start button the "sensing" light comes on. In dianostic mode -- door tests ok (beeps when opened and closed), moisture sensor tests ok (beep when connected by one finger). After the "88" appears, when I press the same button used to put it into diagnostic mode, I get "Pr" followed by "23". When I press the START button in diagnostic mode, I get code "C5". I can't find any documentation on these wacky codes anywhere.

I was planning to step through the troubleshooting (on the tech sheet) to see if I can track it down. Any suggestions or shortcuts?

Check the thermal fuse and belt switch.

I didn't mention it, but I already replaced the thermal fuse (the fuse on the lower back of the dryer). I'll look into the belt switch.

I miss having quality appliances. The last washer/dryer combo lasted 15 years... only got rid of it because wifey wanted shiny new objects in the laundry room. This pair is only about 3 years old.

[rant]These Whirlpool Cabrio units are garbage... the washer with bullsh*t environmental limits on water (clothes don't actually get clean), it's more like dry cleaning. Damn meddling environazis.[/rant]

Did you run the manual load tests while you had it in diagnostic mode?

I have attempted to run the Manual Load Tests (from the Tech Sheet):

ACTIVATING THE MANUAL LOAD TEST

1. Be sure the dryer is in standby mode (plugged in with all indicators off, or with only the Done indicatoron).

2. Select any one button (except Pause/Cancel) and follow the steps below, using the same button (remember the button):
     Press/hold 2-5 seconds
     Release for 2-5 seconds
     Press/hold 2-5 seconds
     Release for 2-5 seconds
     Press/hold 2-5 seconds
     Release for 2-5 seconds
     Press/hold 2-5 seconds

 88 flashes momentarily, the motor starts right away, and the Heavy Duty LED flashes (this step starts the Manual Load sequence): 

(MOTOR DOES NOT START ON MY DRYER)

1. Turn on motor. ➔ Flash “Heavy Duty” LED.

Now press any key (except Pause/Cancel) and the control will advance through each step of the following sequence:

Single Element Model

2. Motor + heater. ➔ Flash “Casual” LED.
3. No loads on (motor + heater). ➔ Flash “Normal” LED.
4. Repeat using same button. ➔ Start sequence again at 1.

Dual Element Model

2. Motor + heater 1. ➔ Flash “Casual” LED.
3. Motor + heater 2. ➔ Flash “Timed Dry” LED.
4. Motor + heater 1 + heater 2 + drum light. ➔ Flash “Drum Light” LED.
5. No loads on (motor + heaters). ➔ Flash “Normal” LED.
6. Repeat using same button. ➔ Start sequence again at 1.

When I press the same button to attempt to cycle through the tests, I get the weird "Pr" and "C5" in the display. If I press any other buttons, the indicators for the button come on.

In general, undocumented error codes mean a corrupted operating system.  This looks like a programming error code used in the factory. Looks like the new board you got is bad out of the box. Where did you get it? If from Repairclinic or Appliance Parts Pros, you can return it for a replacement.

I actually did buy the control interface from APP. I'll return it and get a new one. Thanks for the tip.

I'm used to companies not accepting return electronic parts because of their sensitivity to static, etc.

What part did u replace, the main board or the interface/display board

I replaced the main board first because of the F01 error code. After I replaced that, I got another F code (don't remember) and research suggested I replace the display board. After that I got the weird "undocumented" codes as Mr Samurai called them.
