The drain pump is VERY loud. It sounds like there gravel inside. It also seems to pump slowly/erratically, i.e. the flow is not constant.

I removed the pump and inspected the intake and discharge and from what I could see there were no foreign objects. IIRC, I could spin the impeller easily.

Am I missing something? Is the pump just noisy? Should I look someplace else for the issue?

Thanks!

Replace your pump before in breaks full of water.

Or check and spin wash tub, spin by hand, machine could have bad bearings.

Another source of pump noise on these is change or other objects in tub.  Things (change, lint, etc...) can get sucked into pump during drain and pushed back up into tub when pump turns off. Also items like change can rattle loudly in bottom of tub during spin. Unfortunately you'd need to pull basket to see. Basket usually comes out pretty easily. There will be a white plastic pump cover at bottom. The intake for both pumps is under that cover. Drain pump is the hole on the right and recirculation pump on left.

As for checking pump motor, turning the impeller is only part of checking it out. I'm normally looking for wobble or other side to side motion of impeller. If in doubt change the pump. Impeller should turn freely but with distinct magnetic resistance points as it turns.

Also like abaesemann said be certain that you are hearing pump and not bearings.  Bearings are common problems in these and make noise during spin. Pump should turn on and off a few times during drain/spin cycle.
