GE Profile Oven Model # PB970SP3SS Keeps Switching Off

Recommended Posts

I bought a house recently and the oven is giving me fits. It’s a GE profile, electric, with two ovens (a big one and a little one).

It doesn’t matter which oven you’re using. I’ll set the temperature, and it will just randomly turn itself off. There’s no rhyme or reason to it. Doesn’t matter what temperature it’s set to. Sometimes it’s when it’s preheating, sometimes it’s when it’s when it’s been on for a while. I’ll have it on , walk away, and come back and only see the clock display. Sometimes it does it five or six times over the course of trying to cook a meal, sometimes it doesn’t do it at all.

I’ve also noticed that sometimes when I press “0” to set a temperature (like 350 degrees), the display seems to think I pressed the number “8.”

Any thoughts on how I might diagnose / repair? What do you think the problem is?

Is the clock blinking, or remains on steady? If blinking, check the power cord at the rear terminal block to make sure the connections are tight. When you press the "Start" key does the range begin to heat? Or do you just get a beep and nothing happens? It sounds like a bad glass touchpad, especially if you're pressing one key and getting another, part #WB27T11145.

The clock remains totally steady, no blinking. When I press “start,” the oven starts to heat. Like I said, it just randomly shuts itself off.

Start with the keypad as stated above, but in addition you may need to change the main control pwb

I was wondering if Eingmund ever confirmed the source of the issue.  I have the exact same problem.  Was it the keypad? The MCB? Or was it the Frame Board Assembly (which I have read about somewhere else as being a possible reason....)

Also having the exact same issue.  Any confirmed diagnosis?

Same issue. I removed main board behind display looked good. No burn marks . I then checked main relay board and daughter relay board. There was some brown discoloration nothing definitive. Stove top works fine. Both ovens either turn off after 5 seconds or just show a F760 on display. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Customer did run self clean within a couple weeks of this issue.

Techsheet say mainboard failure ( better late than never?)

An easy thing you can do that may help is take the flat membrane cable from the touch panel to the main board and look for signs of silver migration. It's basically an internal short in the cable and it's sometimes visible to the naked eye. The metals from the individual traces can branch out and migrate outside of the trace, and eventually cause a short between the traces. This can cause all kinds of issues with the touch buttons.

Looks a little something like this:

Google "silver migration" if you want to see other pictures and explanations.

I have the same problem, I replaced the controlboard but it does the same with the new one. Has anybody figured it out ?

So I just replaced the Touch Glass Panel 191D5972P002 (I found a used one on ebay at $200) and now it's working perfectly.
I know that GE still sells this part but it cost more than $700.
