Home Improvements

The move-in process continues. I spent most of the evening getting emoticons uploaded and activated. Now when you post, you'll see taksan more emotes to chose from. Still have a few faves that didn't make it but they're coming. Didn't think it'd be that much of a PITA to get emotes done. I love Invision Power Board software but emote management is the one area I've found that could use some sprucing up. Currently working on getting the Gallery and Downloads sections set up. These can be

I Blinked and Missed the Server Migration!

That had to be the most seamless server migration I ever didn't participate in! Been having stability problems with the server that hosted this forum (RE: my last post) and complained to my host who are the same people that wrote this forum software: Invision Power Board. Yeah, I figured have the forum hosted by folks who would know the optimum server configuration to run their software. While that may in fact be true, the reality in my case was a bit different. Another site on the server k

More Downtime Today

Yet more downtime today on the server that runs this site. That makes the 8th time this week alone for over an hour and half of downtime. My host tells me that the server running my site has been the victim of several denial of service attacks. Must be another site on this server that draws all the hostiles like flies to a turd. Well, that turd is stinking me out! My host has offered to move me to another server which I eagerly accepted. The move will happen sometime in the next 24 hours,

Skip the registration process and sign right in with your Twitter log in

Added the Twitter Connect capability to the forum. Now new users can skip the registration rigamarole and just sign right in with their Twitter login on. They're automatically Grasshoppers and can ask questions in the Kitchen and Laundry forums. You can see it on the forum sign in page==> http://appliantology.org/index.php?app=core&module=global&section=login Note that if you're already logged in, you won't see it.

Outage Fever

Been having brief but increasing frequent bouts of outages. This is especially annoying because I'm paying for premium hosting for this forum for the specific purpose of ensuring reliable uptime. Oh, the bitter disappointment! I'll keep limping along and complaining about this to Invision Power Board... for a while. If it keeps up, I'll just give up and revert back to the old forum. I think it was Sublime Master BrntToast who prophetically cautioned about this move, "If it ain't broke, d

Back to Work!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving day with family and friends. Lots of people have the day off today but, alas, no such luxury for the Samurai. After a good morning constitutional, it's back to work! The other night in chat, BrntToast suggested that I start a forum just for tips and tricks on using and getting them most out this forum software since it's new for all the oldtimers here, including yours so freaking truly. Just did that this morning. You may have noticed the new forum cat

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm thankful that the Great Forum Migration went as well as it did. Wasn't easy but it was definitely worth the hassle. I'll be out all morning, back for a little bit this afternoon and then off to some friends house for Thanksgiving dinner. Back here and online after that. Hope everyone has a great day with family and friends!

Welcome to the New Digs!

It was a long, tough day yesterday being a keyboard warrior, getting the forums converted to from UltraBB to this new forum software, Invision Power Board. Most stuff came through fine though there are plenty of bugzillas scittering about. If you find one, lemme know and I'll squash it. Some known problems: - About 30 to 40 Chief Apprentice Appliantologists (Permapprentices) transferred over as Grasshoppers. If you're one of those, let me know and I'll fix it for you. - The user titles an
