Thanks for the video. A great idea. 20 years ago in the business you could have a well-stocked van with parts the same day of service--a really full van. Now, as I look at our service vans, at least half the space is really not used well--lots of empty spots in racks compared with the days. With gas at near $4.00 a gallon, This just makes common sense. I would bet this will be the trend, as many companies have switched to hatchbacks or small transport vans.

In a recent issue of Marcone World magazine, there was an article about how some servicers in the UK are converting those tiny little mini Coopers into service vehicles.  They remove the back seats and the passenger seat.  Even install little mini shelving units.  Pretty slick!  We'll probably see more of that kind of thing here as they keep creating more Federal Reserve Notes (masquerading as Dollars) out of electrons and makes the prices for everything, including gas, keep climbing.

My main service vehicle is a 4 cylinder nissan frontier.I keep a small inventory inside the truck and only a dolly and a few other weather resistant items in the bed . We are lucky in that our supply house is 4 minutes away and have no need to keep a huge inventory.   I often find myself lusting after those big masculine walk-in service vans I see other techs using but  I haven't been able to justify buying one. If my wife ever sees your video, I will never be able to get one for sure! Oh well, I just have to satisfy myself in the knowledge I am saving money on gas and keep my wimpy (and paid for) truck. lol

The best part about that Prius is that I bought it used from some friends three years ago.  They made me an offer I couldn't refuse, it was practically a gift.  It's a 2005 and only had 60,000 miles on it.  Has 120,000 on it now.  It's been the most trouble-free vehicle I've ever owned.

Great Idea! Thinking outside the motorized box. How long is the battery life of a prius. I have been looking around for a small wagon. I like the transit van, but it does not get a whole lot better mpg. With all the different appliances I seem to make alot of second trips. I am thinking this is just the way the business has become, unless you streamline the kind of appliances you are willing to work on.

My Prius is a 2005 and the hybrid batteries are still going but not as strong they used to. They'll need to be changed in a couple years but by then I'll have a new, leased Prius.
