    Hi, I'm new to appliance repair but I do have an extensive background doing electrical/mechanical work in industrial facilities. I'm good with a multimeter and comfortable with schematics. I'm currently studying HVAC/R. Learning the refrigeration cycle sparked my interest in refrigerators and freezers, which led me to the idea of doing appliance repair as a career. As of late, I've been intrigued watching as many Master Samurai repair videos on YouTube as possible, but as soon as I get the funds together I'll be taking the Core Appliance Training as my official intro into the trade. If anyone in the Metro Detroit Area is looking for help and is willing to give me a shot let me know. I can start asap.

    I tried to put the fridge into the diagnostic mode and it just kept beeping. Even when I pushed the button to shut it off it still kept beeping, do you think since it wouldn't go into diagnostic that it might be a bad board. Thanks

    LolSo here's an update, I was able to do some research and cool the bi-metal to about 0° still measures open circuit. I ordered a replacement. In what may have been naive attempt to keep the fridge section and the food in it. Cool. I replaced the freezer drawers and plugged the unit back in. I had the steel cover off of the back side which covers the control board and another board, when I plugged it in there was some arcing in this secondary board. I immediately unplugged it. I don't see any burn traces or obviously damaged components but now I am really fluxed. Appreciate any help you can provide.

    My outdoor compressor unit is making a buzzing sound. It appears to be cooling okay though it is an old R22 unit. I attached a recording made about 3 feet from the unit so you can hear it. I'm also attaching a photo of the unit itself and the label on the back. I'm new to the house so I don't know what it sounded like when it was new or what the history is on the unit. Is it possible this sound is normal for this kind of unit? If not, can we say anything about what I can expect going forward, like how long it may be before it stops cooling? AC Sound.m4v

    The problem keeps recurring, soft ice cream, no ice cubes, etc. I did a manual defrost, pulled the heater sensor pigtail, the black cylinder (thermistor?) measures aroune 2K ohms at room temperatur, the othe device is open at room temp, heater shows 53 ohms, what do you suggest?

    Years too late for this one but I would have replaced the spinner support and used the correct bolt and washer. Im fixing to do mine not because it is making noise but because it is the 10th year since my last rebuild and the 20th year for the machine since I bought it new and I want to use it 10 more years. If I live that long I will be 80 and someone else can do the laundry then.. LOL
