Hello. I have an LG ga-b499yecz refrigerator, and since yesterday it started audibly rattling/vibrating. I removed the back panel, cleaned it, lubed the fan, but the problem seems to be with the small piece of styrofoam on a condenser tube. When I applied pressure there, rattling noise stopped. I removed it entirely and abnormal noise went away completely. So the question is, can I use my fridge without this piece? Or does it serve some great purpose? There seems to be some kind of valve/flap on the condenser, but I don't know whether it's dependent of that piece of styrofoam. Thanks in advance.

GE Refrigerator PFE29PSDASS condenser fan cycling
ReluctantRepairMan posted a topic in DIY Appliance Repair Help
~5 yo GE Fridge - PFE29PSDASS (side-by side w/ freezer on the bottom). Starting a week or so ago occasionally hearing a fan 'cycle'...run for 2-3 seconds, then spin down and immediately back up. As of today it's doing it constantly. I've confirmed it's the condenser fan, which is at the bottom/back of this model. The fan spins, so it's not stuck. I believe (based totally on listen) that the condenser is running the whole time...it's just the fan spinning up to what sounds like full speed for 2ish seconds, then down not quite to a stop, then immediately back up. I've vac'd all the dust and crud out of there w/ no effect. likely to be a bad fan? motor controller? thermostat of some kind? how do I tell. -
