Samurai Appliance Repair Man's Hard-Earned Pearls of Life-Wisdom

Posted by Samurai Appliance Repair Man, in Samurai Incarnate 05 March 2011 · 454 views

I've learned that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is stalk them and hope they panic and give in.

I've learned that no matter how much I care, some people are just jerks.

I've learned that it takes years to build up trust, and only suspicion, not proof, to destroy it.

I've learned that you shouldn't compare yourself to others - they are more messed up than you think.

I've learned that you can keep puking long after you think you're finished.

I've learned that we are responsible for what we do, unless we are celebrities.

I've learned that regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades, and there had better be a lot of money to take its place.

I've learned that sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down will be the ones who do.

I've learned that we don't have to ditch bad friends because their dysfunction makes us feel better about ourselves.

I've learned that no matter how you try to protect your children, they will eventually get arrested and end up in the local paper.

I've learned that the people you care most about in life are taken from you too soon and all the less important ones just never go away.

I've learned to say "F*ck 'em if they can't take a joke" in 6 languages.

Countdown to Takeoff

Posted by Samurai Appliance Repair Man, in Samurai Incarnate 29 December 2010 · 487 views

Today's zie big day: the pilgrimage to Mount Athos, the Holy Mountain, in Greece.

It all starts with a two hour bus ride to Boston Logan airport. After clearing the TSA anal cavity check, we'll have a seven hour, bone crushing flight to Zurich where we'll enjoy a five hour wait for our connecting flight. Mmm, five hours hanging around a stinking airport with blaring loud speakers and and constant threats of more body cavity violation. Jealous yet?

From there, we'll take another five hour flight to Athens, Greece. We'll have four hours to catch the bus for a six hour ride up to Thessaloniki, Greece. From there, the ferry ride to Vatopedi Monastery at Mount Athos.

I'll be posting frequent updates and photos at http://mountathos.posterous.com

Blizzard!

Posted by Samurai Appliance Repair Man, in Samurai Incarnate 27 December 2010 · 490 views

Got a bonafide blizzard going on here! Finally some decent snow to go with the cold. We're supposed to get a foot and half of the white stuff. Cold weather without snow is just depressing. I'll post some winter wonderland pics tomorrow.

Meanwhile, making final preps for the trip to Greece. We leave Wednesday. Here's a fun fact to know and tell: AT$T doesn't have an international voice plan for cell phones, it's just a flat $1.29/minute even if someone calls you and even if you don't answer and the call rolls over to voice mail! The only way you don't get charged is if the phone is off. This takes hating junk calls to a whole new level! :nono:

Back to Work!

Posted by Samurai Appliance Repair Man, in Forum Updates, Samurai Incarnate 26 November 2010 · 393 views

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving day with family and friends. Lots of people have the day off today but, alas, no such luxury for the Samurai. After a good morning constitutional, it's back to work!

The other night in chat, BrntToast suggested that I start a forum just for tips and tricks on using and getting them most out this forum software since it's new for all the oldtimers here, including yours so freaking truly. Just did that this morning. You may have noticed the new forum category, "Samurai School of Appliantology Student Union."

There's a new forum in there called Orientation for New Students. This is a completely open forum where anyone can start topics and reply to topics on using these forums. So, for example, if you're a lurker here and trying to figure out how to get started, you can ask in the orientation forum without having to register.

Similarly, if you're an existing user of the old forums and are confused about something on these forums, this is the place to ask.

I also moved the Announcements forum to the Samurai School of Appliantology Student Union category 'cuz it seemed to go better there and gives it a little more prominence at the top of the page.
