  1. GE Monogram ZISS420nmcs, side by side cabinet depth unit. condenser is in the "ceiling" of the freezer compartment. Water is leaking, and freezing, from the ceiling of the freezer. Started making a terrible noise (fan was hitting the ice). I have removed all screws but cannot seem to remove the ceiling panel. There is a small opening, I can reach in and feel ice above the ceiling. I suppose I can fix the symptom by letting all of the ice melt and simply turning off the water to the ice maker. Any better suggestions? TIA !!
  2. Manufacturer: Electrolux Type of Appliance: French door fridge Model Number: FGHF2366PFEA Have you validated the model number at an online parts site like Repair Clinic? (yes or no): Yes Have you watched the video on how to search for manuals and have you searched the Downloads section prior to posting this request? (yes or no): Yes Is there any bulletin for this freezer Frost issue related to the freezer evaporator thermistor? I couldn't find any repair manual for this model, other than the one under the fridge. The freezer was 3/4 frosted over with 3 inches of frost in front of it. It was partially defrosting the bottom corner of the evaporator but the rest was a solid block of ice. Bimetal was 0.3 ohms (good). In test mode, the defrost turned on and was very hot but shut off early and started with an evaporator thermistor measurement of 42° F even though the evaporator thermostat was buried in ice. The plastic clip was snapped on to the suction line that leaves the evaporator in the middle of the evaporator. 4.9 volts DC was measured at the control board for the thermistor (this is correct). Good power socket and polarity. I measured a good ohm reading from the board at the wire harness to the thermistor so it's not open, just off. My diagnosis is the thermistor that is the problem. I know there was a service bulletin for some models of Frigidaire with this ice maker. The ice room has frost around the edges of it in the top and top right corner. The ice maker defrost tested okay in test mode. Is there a bulletin for intermittent / no ice making / frost for this type of ice maker? The Old Frigidaire bulletin upgraded the parts for this ice maker to the ones that came with this fridge including the silicon gasket behind the air handler for the ice room. But they don't sell a separate gasket for the ice room and that's where the frost is at the perimeter of. You'd have to buy the whole ice room part. But are there any more bulletins?
  3. I have ice building up in the bottom of the freezer compartment on my Samsung RF4287HARS French Door Refrigerator, below the pull out drawer. It will build up to about 3/4"-1" thick and then impedes the closing of the door. Every 4-6 weeks, I need to remove the freezer drawer, melt and chop the ice and put everything back in. I have been doing this for three years on a 5 year old fridge. Samsung Customer Service is ABSOLUTELY NO HELP. What causes this? And can I fix it myself?

  6. hello. i have a 14-15 year old LG LRTN22312SW refrigerator with freezer on top. i have a LOT of ice accumulating on the bottom of the freezer and water dripping down into the fridge. i have pulled the back out of the freezer and the coils aren't iced over and the drain seems clear. i poured water down it and heard it splash in the pan at the bottom (I hung a wire extending down the drain hole connected to the heating element just in case it was freezing over. There is no leak from the ice maker which is currently turned off. the water seems to be seeping in from the bottom seam where the back panel meets the bottom of the freezer. i noticed that the insulation on the back of the freezer panel i removed was wet and frozen. i cut off the bottom inch or two of the insulation that was completely frozen. 2 questions: 1. what the heck is causing the water?? is it condensation on the inside of the back panel dripping down? 2. do you think removing ALL the insulation on the back panel would cause a problem? thanks in advance for any help or tips you might provide. I'm REALLY trying to not have to buy a new unit. DS

  8. Hello all, <I tried to search for my answer first before posting but I can't find the magic to make the search function work. Maybe it's a Chrome issue?> Anyway: the ice maker is leaking water into the catch bin while making ice so it's freezing some of the already-made cubes into big blocks. Is this a bad water inlet valve? We have very hard water where I live (Lincoln, NE) so that may be contributing to the problem. I *think* the fridge is level so I don't believe it's just overflow happening due to gravity. We haven't moved the fridge in 5 years and this problem just started a month ago or so. When the ice maker arm is "up" the leak stops if that helps isolate a troubleshooting best guess. I consider the automatic ice maker to be one of mankind's greatest accomplishments (after the wheel and red wine) so it's critical to get this fixed! Thank you in advance for reading / suggestions!
  9. KitchenAid WRF989SDAM00 has recurring problem with ice build-up on the evaporator coils, resulting in fan noise as the fan hits the ice. I want it to stop. I have melted the ice but it comes back...it used to take months between melting the ice and now it takes weeks. I want a permanent fix. As I understand it, there are 3-4 parts that could contribute to this, the defrost timer, defrost thermostat, defrost heater, or the control board. Sadly, several of these parts are out of stock at RC, so I may have trouble sourcing them. As with other older appliances (this one is only maybe 6 years old...), the parts get end-of-lifed and difficult to find. How do I test the parts to diagnose which to purchase? I can put my ohmmeter across the heater...but I need to locate the heater first. Is it clear where to connect the meter and can I do it in the freezer, or do I need to fully disassemble it? Is the thermostat the temp sensor (attached to 1"x 4" (appx) plastic with curved outside) that clips to outside the sheet metal separating the evaporator assembly from the freezer? Where is the timer located and how do I test the timer? And how do I verify it is not the control board...a very expensive part? thanks
  10. I researched this ice build up and most feel that it's a plugged defrost drain tube in the fridge section. I opened up that section and the drain tube is free of ice and water passes thru it with no problem, so I have eliminated that as the cause. I have a feeling that my problem may be with the water supply......but I have not idea as to a fix. Anybody having similar problems and what was your fix. THANKS
  11. We bought a used Kenmore refrigerator/freezer (Model# 795.75084401). Occasionally we find a puddle on the floor and ice on the bottom of the freezer. Eventually the ice builds up enough that the freezer drawer won't close completely and then we start getting ice on the stuff in the freezer. We clear out the ice and things are fine for a few days and then the water starts showing up again. What is going on and what can I do about it? Thanks, --Mike
  12. Hi. First time I've been to this site in a few years and things have changed. I know I have asked this "hollow ice" question in the past, but I can't pull up my oldest posts. I would have posted in the Kitchen Appliance section, but that is now a technician only forum. Maybe my old posts are still buried in there? In any case... I have an Amana bottom freezer that has served us relatively well for about 20 years now. The ice maker has been replaced a few times. A fan a time or two, and some other things too. It has been producing hollow ice for a couple/few months now. A couple days ago I replaced the ice maker unit. When I was replacing it I noticed the fill tube had a partial plug of ice. It worked fine for the first few ice loads and I'm again back to hollow ice. Squeezing the fill tube indicates it once again has a partial ice plug. I think when this happened the last time I had to replace the part that controls the water flow into the ice maker. I'm here because I don't recall what part I replaced, and I'm also not 100% sure this is the problem. This site has been an amazing resource over the years. Cheers, Gary
