  1. Hello, greetings, fellow repair enthusiasts. I haven't been here in many years because I've managed to keep the homestead running on very simple tech, with grand old antique appliances which rarely break down, and when they do, I know what to do to fix them. But the neighbor brought me a GE GTS17DTNJRWW top freezer fridge which is less than 1.5 years old and quit cooling soon after it was out of warranty. I typically turn old fridge cabinets into raised planter boxes, but when I began to disassemble this one I was enamored with how clean and new it is, yet simple and basic by design. I noticed that both fans and the interior light operate, but the compressor doesn't seem to audibly turn on, even though there is a slight vibration coming from it. Hard to tell with the fan blowing at it though. I thought I heard the start relay clicking and turning off the compressor after a minute. There was a rattle sound when I handled the compressor start relay combo device so I bought a new start relay and capacitor to play with it. I pressed the door switch 3 times in case the control board needed resetting and it also sat unplugged for a few days. When I turned it on with the new relay/capacitor, I measured 0.4 amps AC going into the start relay. The fridge cools, but only to about 40 degrees inside the freezer compartment, after 20 hours of non-stop operation. I looked at the helpful repair flowchart here on the website, but I don't know how to answer the compressor operating question. It does not make a typical compressor start noise like all the other electric fridges I've ever had. A lot of negative customer reviews on GE's website mention how noisy their compressor sounds, but this one doesn't make a sound. I don't know how to test the control board for faulty function, and due to the cost of the control board I don't want to take a gamble on buying a new one if I don't know if the compressor is any good or not. Can anyone advise me on how to test the compressor for basic operational functionality? How would I know if the compressor is bad versus the control board being faulty?
  2. Manufacturer: GE Type of Appliance: Refrigerator Model Number: GSH22KGPAWW Have you validated the model number at an online parts site like Repair Clinic? (yes or no): Yes Have you watched the video on how to search for manuals and have you searched the Downloads section prior to posting this request? (yes or no): Yes There are no legal documents related to this model specifically. My customer is having a repeated frost problems in the freezer so service bulletins would be helpful or a specific manual related to repairing this refrigerator.

  5. GE Arctica Profile top freezer. Worked great until late Christmas Day. A couple of casseroles still hot to the touch underneath were put on the top shelf frig by family member. Frig never recovered temperature from shock, even after removing casseroles to the deck freezer (i.e. snow). Consistently reads 58-60 degrees. Discovered freezer consistently read 15 degrees. Still making ice just fine. All food removed from unit. After much reading, here is what I know and don’t know: 1. I don’t hear what I’ll call a blower going on and off like I usually hear. 2. Switched out thermometer with one in separate freezer and temps correlate. 3. Suspect something with defrost system or some fan or damper. I will check those with DH’s help after writing this. 4. Worst case scenario is main control board. Am certain DH won’t want to put that kind of $$ into this 20+ year old refrig. 5. At first we weren’t going to attempt repair, but refrigerator shopping is a nightmare, and I don’t want my frig to wash windows. 1. Top freezer, 2. make ice or not, 3. large capacity because we rarely eat out and we feed friends, family 4. Last more than 8-10 years! Have loved this refrig, any help greatly appreciated! Will post results of checking out defrost, etc. this afternoon. Thank you!

  7. I think 162D6295G022 is the model number. I found it underneath a panel in the top of the fridge compartment. I am pretty sure the issue is a defrost problem. I think the heaters are OOS (high) in resistance (I don't know the spec, but they are very oxidized and discolored) and not heating up enough to fully thaw the coils. The timer seems to be working and when I manually turn to defrost position, heaters turn on, but the mid section barely glows if at all. I am having a hard time finding replacement heaters; its the type that has a lower heater, mid heater and upper thermostat all on the same circuit. I bought a replacement heater PN: WR51x442 but its not wide enough to fit the mounting holes; the mounting holes on the replacement are spaced at 6-5/8". The original that I pulled out have mounting holes spaced at 9-1/2". The quartz tube on the replacement is about 7-3/4" and on the original is spaced about 10-1/4". Can anybody recommend the correct replacement PN and source? I'd prefer Amazon, but will take what I can get. Thanks in advance

  12. Dryer control panel randomly won’t light up or work. The light inside the dryer lights up so I know it’s getting power. Usually I will Unplug it for awhile and it will start working again but now that’s not the case. It’s about 16 years old so I know it’s at the end of its life but it’s such a great dryer.

  15. Hi Everybody, I have a GE PFE29PSDASS fridge that was not cooling and it appeared like the inverter board is at fault - getting correct signals from main board and compressor with continuity across all pins. In my man-handling attempt to get the inverter board out of the crammed space, I managed to bend the compressor line (service port ?) just enough that the line broke. I am just handy enough to order a new board and replace it, but what is the recommended course of action to get the compressor line fixed and the compressor recharged. I have limited experience with this and am not sure of my next steps now. Can I simply solder this shut and do I then need to find a way to pull a vacuum on the compressor / refrigeration system and/or how to proceed from there. I replaced a car AC compressor many moons ago and remember needing to go through those steps at the time, but have no idea if its the same here of different. Much appreciate the support! Tom
  16. I'm installing a used GE Cafe dishwasher - about 4-5yrs old, apparently. No model number to be found. When I go to attach the drain hose, there is a threaded connector on the dishwasher side, but no threads on the rubbery black elbow connector on the hose side. This is making me wonder if there is a part missing here. I've attached pics of each side, as well as the whole bottom in case that helps anyone recognize the model. It just seems odd to clamp this rubber hose end over a threaded mount, as if something else is meant to happen here and, if nothing else, be a source of leaks. Also, it notably says ON the drain hose "do not remove check valve", so I'm wondering if that's what's missing. Also, if anyone recognizes this model number, it would super help to have it if I need to buy a part! Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.
